What is LEDefense?

  • InSinkErator® LEDefense is an LED odor fighting sink flange.

  • LEDefense technology helps prevent the build up on the baffle by killing common germs including bacteria and inhibiting mold growth.*
  • LEDefense is sold with select InSinkErator® garbage disposal models.
  • It is also sold as an accessory to retrofit any InSinkErator® continuous feed disposal.

How does LEDefense work?

  • InSinkErator® LEDefense utilizes Vyv’s LED technology that has isolated a portion of the visible light spectrum (400-420 nm) that kills 99% of odor causing bacteria.*
  • As it is UV-free, it meets international standards for continuous and unrestricted use around people, pets and plants.
  • Backed by Vyv LED technology, the InSinkErator® LEDefense flange features an always on, pleasant, purplish-blue LED light that provides 24/7 protection.

How is LEDefense powered?

  • LEDefense requires a continuously powered dedicated outlet to power LED light.
  • LEDefense must be powered via a separate outlet from a wall switched outlet used to power a disposal.
  • LEDefense has a power draw of less than 0.07 amps.

Power Configuration Install Options:

  • Plug LEDefense into a continuously powered outlet available under the sink.
  • If a continuously powered outlet is NOT available under the sink, there are options available:
    • A nearby available continuously powered outlet may be utilized.
    • InSinkErator® dual outlet sinktop switch can be utilized – Outlet 1: Connect InSinkErator® Garbage Disposal. Outlet 2: Connect LEDefense. NOTE: when operating disposal, LED light will temporarily go out.
    • Check with local electrical codes, as well as consult with a professional electrician. You may be able to install a grounded, UL Listed splitter (2 AC outlets) on a dedicated, continuous GFCI outlet (min 15 amp outlet). It will turn your one outlet into two available outlets.  Splitter used to power LEDefense flange and one other appliance (hot water tank, dishwasher, chiller) with a combined draw of less than 15 amps.

How do you install LEDefense?

  • The installation of LEDefense will require removal and replacement of the prior existing mounting flange and assembly. To do so, the disposal will have to be dismounted first.
  • Once the pre-existing disposal is dismounted and the flange removed, simply install the new LEDefense flange. NOTE: a rubber flange seal is provided with installation components and should be used in lieu of plumber’s putty.
  • A red plastic wire guard clip is pre-installed on the LEDefense flange to help keep the cord out of the way during installation. Once the flange is installed, the clip can be removed and thrown away.
  • Remount the disposal.
  • Once the disposal is installed, plug the included power adapter for the LEDefense flange into a standard continuously powered outlet under your sink. See “Power Configuration Install Options” (above) if an outlet is not available.

Are there any compatibility issues with LEDefense?

  • LEDefense requires the use of the LEDefense baffle included with both LEDefense disposer models and accessory. The LEDefense flange is not compatible with any other baffle type.
  • LEDefense is not compatible with existing InSinkErator Cover Control models.
  • LEDefense is not recommended to be paired with BOOST accessory with Septic Guard solution. The anti-microbial technology in LEDefenses can impact the effectiveness of the micro-organisms in the Septic Guard solution.
